Part 25
Graves leapt over Kevin, throwing his weight and the point of his shoulder into the Alpha, preventing the massive teeth from clamping down on Kevin. With the momentary distraction, he slammed two of his remaining rounds into the shotgun's port and brought the barrel up. As he did - it took no more than five seconds - Graves who had been yelling in anger, began to yell in pain. He fell away, his entire right arm still in the creature's mouth. Kevin shot the Alpha point-blank, and thought the bony protrusion on its cranium blocked part of the shot, the rest of its face was mutilated. The creature roared in pain. He racked the next round and fired again, making sure to bring the monster down.
He flipped the shotgun and grabbed it by the barrel in mid-air, then swung it like a bat as he turned to his left. The makeshift bludgeon whistled over the crumpled rear admiral's head, connecting with a solid whump into the final beast. It was in mid-jump when the stock punched into it's face and it flew across the hall with the force of the blow, flying into a piece of protruding metal with a satisfying squelch.
Graves was whimpering on the ground, cradling his severed arm, trying to staunch the bleeding from the stump of his arm. A jagged lump of flesh now sprouted from halfway between shoulder and where his elbow should be.
Kevin hurt all over, with chunks taken out of his body in several spots. All considered he was sure it could have been worse, and looking at Graves was his proof. He dropped to his knees, regretting it immediately and yelling out. The pain was excruciating
